Choosing nights and the city split
Ten nights (5 Makkah + 5 Madinah) or fourteen nights (7 + 7) give more recovery time than a 7-night trip. Many families perform Umrah soon after arriving in Makkah, then use the remaining days for prayer and rest.
Rooms and hotel location
Quad and triple rooms can lower the price per person but are subject to availability for your dates. For elderly travellers, a hotel nearer the Haram reduces walking and makes it easier to return between prayers. Tell your adviser about lifts, stairs or bathroom needs.
Wheelchairs and mobility
Wheelchairs can be used for Tawaf and Sa'i on designated routes, and electric carts operate in Masjid al-Haram. Bring a lightweight folding wheelchair if one is used at home, and allow extra time at airports — request airline assistance when booking flights.
Heat, hydration and health
Temperatures can be very high from late spring to early autumn. Plan the rites for cooler hours, carry water, use an umbrella and watch children and older relatives for signs of heat exhaustion. Carry prescribed medicines in hand luggage in original packaging with a copy of the prescription.
Children
Agree a meeting point in case anyone is separated, write a phone number on a wristband for young children, and pack familiar snacks. A lightweight pushchair can help in Madinah and on hotel routes.
